We are seeking an outstanding, inspirational and ambitious Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional classroom practitioner to support pupils for whom English is an additional language, helping them become confident, articulate learners who can thrive within a demanding academic environment and contribute fully to the life of the College.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop the College's whole-school EAL strategy.
Deliver high-quality EAL teaching to pupils across Prep and Senior School.
Teach listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through structured language acquisition programmes.
Work alongside subject teachers to support access to the wider curriculum.
Assess English proficiency and monitor pupil progress against recognised language frameworks.
Prepare pupils for IGCSE English as a Second Language, English B and future academic pathways.
Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in EAL provision.
Encourage a love of reading, debating, drama and public speaking.
Support pupils through pastoral care and tutor responsibilities.
Contribute to curriculum development and the growth of EAL provision across the College.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to uphold the Brighton College values of Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness.
Contribute actively to safeguarding, wellbeing and the wider life of the College.


Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, Linguistics, Modern Languages or a related discipline, with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification preferred.
Recognised EAL or TESOL qualification such as CELTA, DELTA, MA TESOL or Applied Linguistics is desirable.
Native-level English proficiency with excellent knowledge of grammar and language acquisition.
Experience teaching EAL in a British curriculum or international school environment.
Experience teaching IGCSE English as a Second Language and/or IB English B is desirable.
Proven track record of excellent teaching and pupil progress.
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across multiple subject areas.
International school experience or an international outlook is desirable.
Knowledge of Italian is desirable but not essential.
